Markdown Table Syntax Reference & Best Practices

Colons placed on the left edge align the text to the left. This is standard for descriptive text, names, and titles.

:---: (Center Align)

Colons on both edges center the column contents. Ideal for status badges, boolean yes/no, dates, and short codes.

---: (Right Align)

Colons placed on the right edge align numbers, currency figures, percentages, and metrics to ensure decimal alignment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I include pipes (|) inside a table cell?

In Markdown, pipes delineate column boundaries. To render a literal pipe character inside a cell, escape it with a backslash (\|). When the Escape Pipes option is checked, this tool handles it automatically.

How can I format multiline text within a cell?

Standard Markdown tables do not permit raw linebreaks. Use HTML linebreaks (<br>) to start new lines within a table cell. Our Newlines to <br> toggle converts enters automatically.

Can I convert an existing Markdown table back into this editor?

Yes! Click Import CSV / MD, paste any GitHub Markdown table into the box, and click Parse & Load into Editor. The alignment markers and rows will be restored into the visual editor.

Which export formats are supported?
